The Voice Australia Season 2, Episode 22 - Frontrunners falter

It's Monday night so that means The Voice Australia is on. No, not The Voice, The Voice Australia. 12 horses are left. Let's see who gets cut...

Oh, and Darren throws us another twist at the beginning of the show telling us that the coach gets to pick the 2nd artist. Well, crap. At this stage, Australia should be able to choose the final 8, not the coach. I fear for Jackie.

Team Seal is up first and Harrison is through by audience vote! Mitchell and Alex are left and when Seal starts talking about saving the one who he feels he can still do something for that artist, I start to think he's taking Alex again but it turns out he's picking Mitchell. Alex goes home.

Advancing to top 8: Harrison, Mitchell
Eliminated: Alex

Team Joel is next and Danny is saved first. Kiyomi and Michael are left and Joel takes Kiyomi. Michael is gone. We are denied a final 4 of old people. Thank goodness. I have nothing against them but this bunch is boring except for Simon.

Advancing to top 8: Danny, Kiyomi
Eliminated: Michael

Team Delta is up and I'm holding my breath. Celia goes on to the live show and Delta starts talking about how this decision is the toughest ever. Yadda yadda yadda and she saves Steve Clisby for a third time. Her reason for picking Steve over Jackie is because Jackie will have a long career and Steve won't. What a terrible reason. But then Darren reveals that Steve is singing to his 102 year-old mother which makes me think Delta isn't an idiot but that she was duped.

Advancing to top 8: Celia, Steve
Eliminated: Jackie

Team Ricky is last and Luke is safe. Ricky chooses Miss Murphy so Simon gets sent home.

Advancing to top 8: Luke, Miss Murphy
Eliminated:Simon

First up is Harrison Craig. Finally, no pimp spot and he is first on his team.

1. Harrison Craig - If (5.5/10)

Snoozefest. There was a couple of flat notes and he was out of breath at the end. I thought Seal picked a bad song for him but he will go through with no problems.

2. Miss Murphy - You've Really Got A Hold on Me (9/10)

Great song choice by Ricky. She's performing the heck out of this song. Great vocals by Miss Murphy. Her best since the blind audition. What was Ricky talking about with his "victims of pain" spiel though?

3. Danny Ross - It's Time (3/10)

Danny is back to his usual self. Joel chooses some meh song and Danny sings it off tune. I don't see the appeal of Danny at all but at least, Joel can't manipulate the audience this time with pictures of Danny's mother.

4. Steve Clisby - Sunday in Savannah (4/10)

Delta got duped when Steve "surprised" her with a Skype call with Steve's 102 year-old mother. There was no way Delta would kick Steve off after that. It was cunning of Steve but he won't be able to play those tricks against Australia. He's boring. Consistent but boring. If people are bored by Harrison, Celia or Luke, they should look through all of Steve's performances because they all meld together. The only good performance of his that I liked was Walking in Memphis. He tried to force the emotion by oversinging but it sounds flat and shrill at times.

Halfway point and it's time for a break with Karise Eden!
I still love her voice but the song lingers in one spot. I wish she had a better song than that.

5. Kiyomi Vella - Pack Up (7/10)

I don't like Kiyomi at all. If I had to choose between her and Danny, I would still choose her because she at least has the vocals to back up her "unique" personality. On the subject of her uniqueness, she's a dime a dozen for me. I don't think she's anything special. That being said, she rose above the background and put in a good vocal performance.

6. Mitchell Anderson - Take Me to the River (6.5/10)

Mitchell is one of the oldies who is consistently average. There's nothing really outstanding about him but he sings well. He doesn't have the best voice but he knows how to put on a good show.

7. Luke Kennedy - Overjoyed (5/10)

Ricky chose a bad song for Luke. It exposed his whiny tone and thin voice. The song clashed with his voice. Luke might be in trouble.

8. Celia Pavey - Will You Love Me Tomorrow? (9.5/10)

Outstanding from Celia. She's always so darn consistent in her performances. There was one word where she cracked but other than that, it was the best performance of the night. I don't care if she performs similar songs all the time, Seal, I just want to hear her sing. Unlike you who screwed Harrison up by trying to make him more "diverse", Celia is doing just fine. She still has the potential to win this if Seal keeps trying to make Harrison as diverse as possible.
