Producers, read this next sentence. Stop giving the pimp spot to the same singers over and over. I really like Harrison and he's going to win for sure but for goodness sake, give other singers a chance. The producers on The Voice Australia make the producers on American Idol and The Voice seem very fair with the way they draw up the performance order.
Now that I've spoiled who goes last (was there any doubt that he wouldn't get saved by Australia and get the pimp spot?), let's find out who advances to this week's live show.
We start with Team Ricky and Miss Murphy gets called first. It's down to Caterina and Simon. Simon is safe so Caterina is left to wave goodbye and walk home in that saucy red dress. Then we move on to another team's results...no wait. We head straight into a performance with Ricky's saved artist from last week, Luke Kennedy. I will not follow the producers jumbled order so I will announce the results all at once as if I were a normal showrunner.
Next is Team Delta and Celia is announced as the first safe artist this week. Poor Jackie always looks so nervous when she's waiting for the results but she gets saved by Australia and moves on. Tim is eliminated.
Team Seal is up and Harrison can get ready for his performance. Now it is between Mitchell and Jac for the last spot on Team Seal and the old guy wins it. Mitchell moves on and Jac is uninvited to The Voice.
Team Joel is last and in a surprise call-out, Michael Stangel advances first. Well, now it's down to Kiyomi and Michael Paynter. Michael Paynter gets shock booted and Kiyomi is safe. Australia isn't playing around when it comes to their oldies. 4 out of 12 artists are 35 or over.
Now we move on to the live performances...the first 4 will be the coach's save from last week.
1. Luke Kennedy - Forever 90 (7.5/10)
He sounded thin and tinny in the verses. Chorus is ok. I heard a couple of flat notes but otherwise, it wasn't bad. It certainly is not his best but he will move on. Host Darren McMullen thinks Ricky should change his name to 'Risky Martin'. Give yourself a pat on the back for that one, Darren.
2. Steve Clisby - New York State of Mind (3.5/10)
Another lounge-y performance. And this type he goes sharp when he tries to tackle the high notes.
3. Alex Gibson - Sweet Disposition (2.5/10)
He starts off painfully weak and flat. He gathers it together toward the end. I like the ending but that start was cringeworthy bad. He is likely toast. Seal sabotaged Alex with this song choice.
4. Danny Ross - Old Man (6/10)
He sung it straight but it's a case of 'I like the song more than the performance'. There was that one ghoulish note at the end that I muted but other than that, it was OK.
5. Miss Murphy - Killing Me Softly (7/10)
This song should have been straight with no MC. She put too many twists around it and the MC made her voice weaker. Disappointing.
6. Michael Stangel - Everybody Hurts (5/10)
I didn't think he was that bad. He was alright this time. At least he wasn't shouting at me.
7. Celia Pavey - Edelweiss (9.5/10)
She was flawless. I love her voice and the fact that she's been consistently great. I still don't believe this was the right song for Celia but she made it pop. Did anyone else notice something on her teeth?
And before we move on to any more performances, it's time for a special performance courtesy of Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu and Delta Goodrem. I've never heard this guy before but he sounds great. Delta is good but I kind of wish he just sang the song by himself. His voice is so crisp, clear and attractive.
8. Kiyomi Vella - Young Blood (6.5/10)
Even though I can't stand her, she is the best remaining from Joel's team. Good vocals. That eye makeup and dress though...hmm.
9. Mitchell Anderson - What Becomes of the Brokenhearted (6/10)
It was nice but mediocre. Not very exciting to watch or listen to.
10. Jackie Sannia - Smoke (8.5/10)
She's back behind the piano. Sublime beginning. Then at the very end, it goes a little wonky but she was doing fantastic up till that point. Delta keeps giving her very challenging songs but she makes it work. Delta needs to pick better songs.
11. Simon Meli - Tiny Dancer (6/10)
This song exposed how limited his voice is. His voice was flat when he went into his upper register. He's still one of the most engaging performers in the competition.
12. Harrison Craig - It Had Better Be Tonight (7.5/10)
Bad song choice by Seal. He needs to stop picking from the Michael Buble catalogue for Harrison. I kind of liked this. Harrison isn't the next incarnation of "White Dude Dancing" but his transition to this song was pretty good. He didn't sound like the balladeer that he normally is.
